Two incidents disrupt LRT services

LIGHT Rail Transit (LRT) services in the Klang Valley were disrupted due to two separate incidents. The first disruption that lasted for about 45 minutes occurred at 9.07pm on Wednesday at the RapidKL Kelana Jaya line LRT from Bangsar to Universiti. The incident took place at the Bangsar LRT station when a commuter had gone down to the track to pick up his belongings that had fallen and the operators applied the Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop, cutting electricty supply between Universiti and Pasar Seni.

It caused the trains to stall on the tracks. The commuters panicked and opened the emergency exit doors and walked on the track towards the Bangsar station.

The system was restored about 45 minutes later.

The second incident involved a foreign women who tried to jump from a pedestrian bridge between the Pudu and Hang Tuah LRT stations, causing the train service to stall for an hour from 9.35am yesterday.

She was rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department personnel and brought to the police station for questioning.

RapidKL communication general manager Ebi Azly Abdullah said both incidents were a result of commuters not obeying rules and disregarding their own safety.

“If commuters had not interfered during the incidents, the system could have been fixed within seven minutes. I advice commuters to obey the rules and take care of their own safety and that of other passengers,” he said.
